Rinsch’s Creature Feature

Carl Erik Rinsch is in talks to direct Universal’s long-gestating “Creature from the Black Lagoon” remake, according to Variety.

The pic has been in development for a few years now. Gary Ross had written the first draft (he stay me be involved in a writing capacity – but that’s to be confirmed), and Breck Eisner (“Sahara”) was originally onboard to direct the film, a redo of a 1954 film about an undersea creature that terrorizes a scientific expedition.

Options have obviously lapsed and attachments have expired, hence the clean slate.

Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce with [original scribe] Ross.

Rinsch, who was at one stage set to direct the prequel to Ridley Scott’s “Alien” (before Scott decided he wanted to whack his own leash on that puppy), will make his feature directorial debut later next year with the Keanu Reeves-Samurai (snigger!) flick, “47 Ronin”, also for Universal.
