Eric Bana aboard new “Star Trek” movie

Eric Bana has cast as the villain in the new “Star Trek” movie.

Sounds like one of those ridiculous casting rumours you’d find on a Geocities hosted fan blog, hey? Alas, it’s true, the funnyman turned serious artiste has agreed to play ‘Nero’, the bad guy, in the new “Trek” prequel.

StarTrek.com hasn’t revealed any details about the character but I’m speculating he might be the chap that created the Nero Express Burning Program. And maybe that’s how they make a fresher, younger clone of Spock in the film?

Jokes (yes, that was one right there) aside, I think Bana will do just fine. He’s a good actor, and has a built-in fan base thanks to his role in the [first, and I’m guessing shittier] “Hulk” flick. But more so, we know from his days on ‘Full Frontal’ that he’s capable of playing not just any character thrown at him but playing it just as over-the-top as the part calls for. This part will no doubt be a blend of hammy acting and serious impiety… and having now conquered most genres, Bana can pull the mesh off.

Bottom line: It’s bound to be better than “Lucky You”.
