Russell Crowe brings musical grunt to Les Miserables

Update : Helena Bonham-Carter is in talks to play Thernadier’s Mrs, according to THR.

Jorl-El and Wolverine will jump from the page to the stage in Uni’s new take on “Les Miserables”.

Hugh Jackman’s been set for months to play Valjean, and now fellow Aussie Russell Crowe has been announced as Javert, according to Variety.

Crowe, currently filming the ‘Superman’ reboot, apparently swayed the producers with this singing ability.

Yes, this singing…

I have no words. 30 Odd Foot of Grunt, indeed.

Tom Hooper (“The King’s Speech”) will direct this latest big-screen take on the musical (the last version, I believe, was the late ’90s take with Liam Neeson?) with the show’s original producer, Cameron Mackintosh producing.

William Nicholson penned the script based on the Victor Hugo novel cum play, which follows Jean Valjean, the intrepid protagonist on the run during the French Revolution. Jackman will play Valjean, and Crowe will play his nemesis, Inspector Javert.

The plan is to begin shooting the pic sometime in the first quarter of 2012 so Jackman can squeeze it in before jumping into Fox’s “The Wolverine.”

“Les Miserables” would hit theatres December 3, 2012.
