Russell Crowe is eyeing “’77”, a James Ellroy story (Ellroy of course wrote Crowe’s “L.A Confidential”) that he’d potentially star in and direct.
The drama, says Deadline “connects two stories from 1974. It deals with the unsolved murder of an LAPD officer, and the nationally televised shootout in South Central L.A. between the Symbionese Liberation Army and the LAPD, where 50,000 rounds of gunfire were exchanged. The events will be seen through the eyes of two police partners, one black and one white.”
David Matthews wrote the script for the pic which “Law & Order” alum Dick Wolf is listed as a producer.
Crowe’s been attached to potential directing gigs before, like the feature film adaptation of “Bra Boys”, but none have come to fruition.
