NBC nabs Bassett Series
“Vanishing Point”, a new legal drama starring Oscar Winner Angela Bassett, has landed at NBC. The late addition to the net’s upcoming line-up comes from “Source Code” scribe Ben Ripley, suggesting it’ll have an actual shooting script rather than dot-points on toilet paper.
Lionsgate books “The Tomb” date
This time next year, Schwarzenegger and Stallone will age before your eyes. “The Tomb”, the jail-set actioner starring the “Expendables” duo, hits cinemas September 27, 2013. Like Seagal, it’ll go wide.
Ebert : A Scorsese Picture
Roger Ebert will be the subject of a doco from Martin Scorsese, Steve James and Steve Zaillian, the famous critic told his online followers last night. As opposed to the doco on film critic Clint Morris, which will be produced, no doubt, by whoever owes me a favour and bearing exclusive interviews with his 80-year-old grandmother, and the chick from the library.
“Horns” fattens it’s cast
Juno Temple (“The Dark Night Rises,” “Atonement,” “Killer Joe”), Joe Anderson (“The Grey,” “Across the Universe,” “The Crazies”) and Kelli Garner (“The Aviator,” “Lars and the Real Girl,” “Bully”) are the latest actors to board the supernatural fantasy/thriller “Horns.” The hot young trio are in advanced negotiations to star alongside Daniel Radcliffe. Max Minghella (“The Social Network,” “The Ides of March”) is also currently in negotiations for a key role in the film. “Horns” is being co-produced and financed by Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland’s Los Angeles based film production, finance and international sales company Red Granite Pictures. Red Granite will co-produce the film with Mandalay Pictures. Red Granite Pictures’ international sales arm (Red Granite International), led by Danny Dimbort and Christian Mercuri, is handling foreign sales for the film and will begin discussions with international buyers in Toronto this week.
Based on the best-selling novel by Joe Hill, “Horns” is being directed by Alexandre Aja (“The Hills Have Eyes,” “Piranha 3D,” “High Tension”) from an adapted screenplay by Keith Bunin (“In Treatment”). Producers are Riza Aziz, Joey McFarland and Mandalay Pictures President Cathy Schulman. Joe Hill and Red Granite’s Joe Gatta are executive producers.
“Horns,” a supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery and romance, follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Temple). Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.
This rock and roll infused dark fantasy explores why bad things happen to good people, and what the loss of true love can do to a man. The widely acclaimed book was on the New York Times best seller list for six weeks, and has become an international bestseller as well.

“Prometheus” gets early VOD release
A sign that the end of DVD, let alone cinema, could be nigh – Fox will begin offering their movies online weeks ahead of their DVD and Blu-ray release. The first title to hit the internet, three weeks before it’s official BD and DVD release, will be “Prometheus” on September 18.

Goldberg’s 80’s series lands at ABC
“Breaking In” creator Adam F.Goldberg has sold a “Wonder Years”-esque series, set in the ’80s, to ABC. Pity Dan Lauria’s already busy over at “Sullivan & Son”.
Wilson, Baldwin are “Stealing”
Patrick Wilson, star of the short-lived ‘Ghost Whisperer’-esque series “A Gifted Man”, will get his chance to play leading man again when “Caught Stealing” goes before the cameras. The project, announced at [of course] Toronto, will also star little-known “Knot’s Landing” alum Alec Baldwin.

Spider-Man joins “Cardboard”
One-time dirty-dancing Spider-Man Tobey Maguire will voice “Cardboard”, Fox Animation’s adaptation of Doug TenNapel’s graphic novel. Though not confirmed, Chris Wedge is keen on directing this one.
