The long-gestating Commando reboot is seemingly inching forward with original star Arnold Schwarzenegger signing on to reprise his John Matrix for the follow-up to the 1985 film.
There has been bits and bobs on a new Commando film over the years. At one stage the powers-that-be were eyeing a complete redo but in recent years, another film featuring Schwarzenegger started to take shape. With the Oak started to really warm up to reprising some of his classic roles – he’s also said to still be keen to reprise Conan for a new film – it’s no surprise the “Fubar” star agreed to return for a sequel to one of his most popular films.
Schwarzenegger, who was also set to star in a sequel to another ’80s hit of his, Twins, until it fell apart following the death of director Ivan Reitman, will return for a sequel that again sees former Special Forces Commando Matrix forced out of retirement when his daughter is kidnapped, leading him on a high-octane mission to rescue her and bring down the ruthless criminals responsible.
The film’s official title, according to Giant Freakin Robot, have the scoop on the film is Commando : Retribution.
