Scorpion King replaces Mummy hero

Just when we thought we’d ‘got him back’, Dwayne Johnson has gone and signed up for little league again.

Johnson, next in the actioner “Faster”, will reunite with the kids (whom he did the “Game Plan” and “Race to Witch Mountain” with) for the [groan] “Journey to the Center of the Earth” sequel.

Johnson replaces Brendan Fraser, who is opting out of the Brad Peyton-directed follow-up (I know! What!? Fraser knocks back paycheck!? shocker!).

Josh Hutcherson returns as Fraser’s former on-screen nephew, Sean Anderson.

According to Risky Business, ”Johnson will play the boyfriend of Hutcherson’s mom, who Hutcherson is forced to bring on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather. The script is loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island.”

Three other characters will be introduced in the movie and cast during the next few weeks. Production is eyeing a late October start in North Carolina and Hawaii. Like the first movie, which beat the 3D craze by more than a year and made more than $250 million worldwide in 2008, the sequel will be shot and released in 3D.”

No words for you Dwayne… well, maybe a couple : What you’re cookin’ these days is rancid.
