Moviehole caught up with the adorable Amanda Seyfried (TVs “Big Love”, “Mamma Mia!”) at this year’s Toronto Film Festival – where her latest film “Jennifer’s Body” played as part of the ‘Midnight Madness’ programming – and found the opportunity to ask her about the incessant rumours that a sequel to her 2008 hit “Mamma Mia!” is in the works.
Seyfried isn’t buying it – as far as she’s concerned, there won’t be a “Mamma Mia! 2”.
“I don’t think that’s correct. I don’t think it’s accurate”, the actress says of the rumour. ”Because, you know, I don’t see the point in trying to top something. I mean, maybe if – if they had a really good idea for a story, but I don’t think they would do it to top the first one”.
The actress says the movie musical in which she starred alongside Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan is perfect as a one-piece.
”I mean, it’s a good movie. It’s an original piece. It’s something that was really popular on Broadway. It’s a great soundtrack. I mean, it’s a good, family-friendly movie. And every – two-year-olds sing Abba”.
The rumours started when Meryl Streep told the press (assumingly, jokingly) that she’d do a sequel – if it meant reuniting with her hot male co-stars.
“Grand Mamma Mia! I like it!”, joked the Oscar Winning actress in December. ”I’m up for doing a sequel, as long as you can get those fabulous boys back!”
