We’re all waiting shaky-kneed for next month’s release of the “Back to the Future : 25th Anniversary Trilogy” DVD and Blu-ray.
The thing is going to be doused in extra juice, and, from what I hear, encompass one amazing transfer. You might just wanna make love to 1080p after this!
Universal have sent over a clip from the upcoming DVD, this is from a new feature “Tales of the Future” in which Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale talk about the origins of ”Back to the Future”.

And to think that, there was a time, when we were anxiously awaiting the VHS release of “Back to the Future”. Atleast I was. Seemed to take quite a while to make it’s way from the multiplex to the little black box, too – but then, everything did back then. When it did come out, I remember buying the VHS and the BETA – just in case one of the players started chewing tapes again.
I saw “Back to the Future” in sneak previews. As there wasn’t a teaser trailer to speak of (well, there was, but for numerous reasons, it was footage free), because Robert Zemeckis still only had one hit under his belt at the time (1984’s wonderful “Romancing the Stone”), and since Michael J.Fox was off filming “Family Ties Vacation” in London, thus ruling himself out of promotional duties for the film, Universal previewed the film a few weeks leading up to it’s July 3rd, 2005 release date. Our local cinema at the time was previewing “Back to the Future” with John Hughes’ “Weird Science” (I know, amazing double feature, right!?). We knew what the former was, that’s the reason we were there, but all my little girly friend and I knew about the former was that “it starred Alex from Family Ties” and that Steven Spielberg
, then of “E.T” and “Gremlins” fame, had had something to do with it. I imagine we might also have heard Huey Lewis’ “Power of Love” on the radio – I think it had been out quite a while before “Future” hit screens.
Anyway, I remember loving it to bits. And I remember recommending it to schoolmates, uncles, aunties, the guy working the grill at “Ollie’s Trollies”… anyone that would listen. I remember fondly that, about a week after I saw the film, there was a huge “Back to the Future” billboard put up in the carpark of the main shopping center. It was quite in-your-face. No way anyone was going to miss it. And around that time, the first reviews – then, pretty much, TV only – started to pop up. Anyway… it became a phenomenon in such a short amount of time.
But you not here to read about what flavour choc-top I had the day I saw “Back to the Future”, you’re hear to get all the tasty jizz on the Blu-ray release, right?
Universal announced, after months of scuttlebutt, that the “Back to the Future” trilogy will be hitting Blu-ray on October 26. The films are remastered, there’s plenty of extras (strangely enough – and I say that because he’s a friend of mine and has said a couple of times that he’d be quite happy for his scenes to surface, if only because he hasn’t seen them himself and would like to! – the ‘Eric Stoltz’ scenes aren’t on here though), and lots of fun Blu-ray Live content. As I said, no Stoltz scenes, nor is there a featurette exploring the abandoned ‘fourth’ film (a script had been written for a telemovie prequel that would’ve explored the origins on Marty & Doc’s relationship, there was also a movie sequel being written, by Ed Solomon, that would’ve revolved around Doc Brown causing the Roswell UFO Crash), but still, this sounds like this’ll be worth skipping that rimjob on the rollercoaster for, film fans!
