Spacey returns for Superman II

And possibly “Superman III”, as well

Personally, I can’t see Kevin Spacey giving up his future years to a franchise. On the other hand, if it’s good enough for Michael Caine and other greats…. it’s good enough for him, I suppose. I just know that Spacey is the kind of actor who likes to go out there and wear different hats, so always suspected that the ‘Luthor’ gig might be a one-off.

On the other hand, Luthor’s a huge part of the “Superman” series, and should it spawn a couple of sequels, you can’t imagine the bald baddie not being a part of it can you. (ain’t no evil Superman clone going to fill the void of Metropolis’s favourite villain).

Spacey’s apparently committed to a couple of “Superman Returns” sequels, telling TV’s Michael Parkinson that he’ll indeed be back as Lex Luthor in the franchise follow-ups.

Spacey, tells Superhero Hype, told the TV presenter that he’s definitely going to be in the next one, and possibly, a third one too. He said he expects “the franchise to look after him”. Whether that means financially or in terms of quality, is anyone’s guess.

The shoot of “Superman Returns” has taken up quite a bit of time for Spacey – whose last film, “Edison” was shot a good year and a smidge ago. Before that, he was seen as Bobby Darin in the underrated “Beyond the Sea” (which, believe it or not, still hasn’t been released in Australia. Yep, “Cursed” gets a release – stocky stuff like “Sea” sits on the shelves).

Original Lex Luthor, Gene Hackman, appeared in three “Superman” films as well. All but “Superman III”, in which the above said Superman twin, and a devious Richard Pryor, filled the seats in the baddies side of the auditorium.
