Spike Lee putting Timberlake’s needle on the record for Spinning Gold

Spike Lee is in early talks to direct the Neil Bogart biopic “Spinning Gold”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The “Inside Man” helmer would play boss to Justin Timberlake, playing the disco-pioneering record executive.

Timothy Scott Bogart, Bogart’s son, wrote the script. JT also sits on the board of producers.

A poor kid from Brooklyn, Bogart went on to define the pop music culture of his time. In his day, Bogart, who died in 1982 at age 39, was credited with discovering and launching the careers of a generation of superstars, including Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Gladys Knight, KISS, Parliament, Donna Summer and the Village People. Bogart was founder of Casablanca Records.

Lee, whose next film is “Oldboy” starring Josh Brolin, may be announced officially at AFM over the coming days – so producers can start designating pre-sell territories.
