Spy Kids Recast!

A few months back we were tipped off that Robert Rodriguez was developing a third sequel to his 2001 kiddie hit “Spy Kids”. The plan, not surprisingly, considering it’s rising statue in the marketplace and The Weinstein Company’s eagerness to film all their upcoming product in the format, was for “Spy Kids 4” to be a 3-D movie. The trades, naturally, confirmed the news a few weeks later.

Still, the question remained : Would Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, now aged 21 and 18, respectively, be back!?

Rodriguez answered the question this week, in an interview with IESB.

“It’s different kids not the old kids”, said the Troublemaker Studios’ CEO, currently producing Nimrod Antal’s “Predators”. “I’d probably do that in the early part of next year March or April”.

The filmmaker didn’t say whether any of the other original cast members – including Carla Gugino, Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo, or [the uncredited] George Clooney – would be returning.

Rodriguez, who is also looking to get “Sin City 2” up next year, says “The Weinstein’s really wanted to do another one and I had an idea for one. I even went back and pulled off my old original first script and found some ideas that I couldn’t bring to life back then; I was like ‘Wow these are good ideas.’ So they get to finally come back up.”
