Stallone talks John Rambo

Actor interviewed for French website

French site Allocine talked to Aussie Custom’s favourite film star, Sly Stallone, about his next international import “John Rambo”.

Among the topics discussed in the chat – kindly translated by fan site Stallone Zone – was how the fourth Rambo came about.

Says Sir Sly, “There is this huge feeling of pride for me to plunge back into the heart of this character that has been around for more than 20 years. For Rambo IV -the title being John Rambo- we filmed in Mexico and in Thailand and despite some logistic problems it was a unique experience. It was unbelievable to see that many of my fans, everywhere in the world, are not people of my age, but are very young. It is unbelievable to see that ROCKY and RAMBO have became timeless. I wrote these films for people of my age, but it is the young generation today that will see these films. John Rambo’s theme is different in comparison with Rocky Balboa’s. For Rocky, it was a matter that no matter what the age one can always make a comeback and continue to be at the top. While in the new Rambo, it is a matter of denouncing atrocities wherever injustice happens or in John Rambo addressing the horrible incidents in Myanmmar (Burma).”

Stallone, who played “Judge Dredd” a few years back, mentioned why he hasn’t been able to create any other characters – besides Rambo and Rocky – who have become legendary.

“It is really difficult at this stage to create a new “character” like ROCKY or RAMBO. I don’t have the time or youth to create a new Rambo or Rocky. And the new generation of young people never saw or grew up on Rambo and they are finally discovering Rocky. Rocky is the “clear” side of me and Rambo the “obscure” side. It is necessary for me to denounce atrocities! The last Rambo had too much action and it was not very believable. John Rambo contains a lot of action and I know that it is risky in this state of my career, but I want John Rambo to come back to his origins – his revolutionary side.”
