Ten Sequel Bits We Missed

If we’ve missed anything over the past week or two, during our downtime and ultimate renovation, it’s the conglomerate of sequel news that’s clogged the RSS feeds of your favourite film websites. Obviously there’s been a lot more bits than we can cover here, because we want to get onto the new stuff and all, but there’s ten bits we definitely need to let you know about.

A sequel to John Singleton’s classic “Baby Boy” – you’ll recall it being as famous for it being a follow-up to the filmmaker’s seminal classic “Boyz N’ The Hood” as much as it was the big break of a then unknown Tyrese Gibson – is in the works. Gibson confirmed development of a follow-up on Instagram (via The Playlist).

Paul McGuigan (“Lucky Number Slevin”, “Victor Frankenstein”) is said to be a favourite of the Broccolis to helm the next 007 movie. According to IndieWire, Barbara Broccoli is so pleased with the new Annette Bening movie “Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool,” which McGuigan directed and Broccoli produced, that she’s shortlisted him for the gig.

Cheryl Hines, Christine Barnaski, Susan Sarandon and Peter Gallagher have joined the cast of “Bad Mom’s Christmas”.Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn return for the sequel, currently filming in Atlanta. (THR)

M.Night Shyamalan has officially announced – via Twitter – a sequel to “Unbreakable”. The film will merge the movie worlds of the Bruce Willis thriller with “Split”, which Willis had a cameo in. Willis will return as David Dunn, Samuel L. Jackson will return as Mr Glass, James McAvoy will return as The Horde, and Anna Taylor Joy will return as Casey Cooke. The film will be released in January 2019.

Two scripts to “Mad Max : Fury Road” are in the can, writer-producer George Miller tells the Independent. “We dug down deep into the subtext, the backstory of all the characters, and indeed the world… and without really thinking about it, we wrote two other screenplays just as part of the bible of the stories,” Miller said. “Somewhere, if the planets align, there will be two other films.” The first of the two films will be titled “Mad Max : Wasteland” and Tom Hardy is committed to starring in both.

David Fincher has as good as committed to directing old friend Brad Pitt in the sequel to “World War Z”. Production is likely to begin in 2018. (Variety)

“Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins wants the titular character to come to America in the sequel. Jenkins tells The Toronto Sun, “I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero. I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”

There’s a chance we may see Chucky and Tiffany’s offspring Glen/Glenda on the next “Child’s Play” flick. (Bloody Disgusting)

A big rumour about a potential plot line in “Star Wars : The Last Jedi”, pertaining to a confrontation between Princess Leia and Kylo Ren, has leaked.

Josh Gad (“Beauty & The Beast”) has hinted that he’s up for the role of The Penguin in the long-gestating “Batman” movie.
