The Captain hearts Madagascar 2!

Captain Cumquat here,

Just left a crowded theatre – full of hysterical ankle-biters – here in Hollywood, showing the new “Madagascar” movie.

And you know what!? It wasn’t as excruciating as having your teeth pulled out from your anus!! I know, huh!?

I like to Move It – Move It! And honestly, who wouldn’t? This movie keeps you laughing from the very opening credits where the penguins foil the Dreamworks kid. Every nook and cranny in this movie has been punched up for laughs and the creativity here is through the roof. I watched it in a theater full of hysterical kids so I know that they love it. And adults will be able to appreciate the very thoughtful undertones that teach tolerance, teamwork, acceptance, and individualism.

If you saw the first movie, all of the distinct personalities from the New York Zoo are back. Alex, (voiced by Ben Stiller) the flamboyant performer lion is reunited with his biological African family, but can they him for the Lion he has become? And Marty (Chris Rock) Alex’s always-there-for-ya zebra best friend starts to question what makes him different from the myriad of zebras he meets on safari (also voiced by Chris Rock). Melman (David Schwimmer) the hypochondriac giraffe, finally professes his love for Gloria (Jada Pinkett-Smith) the good time hippo, but he is none of the things that she has learned to desire. And of course, those scheming and conniving penguins are back to save the day – or destroy it depending on your vantage point. This time King Julian (Sasha Barron-Cohen) the self appointed King-of-the-lemurs-and-the rest-of-the-world and his trusty sycophant Maurice (Cedric the Entertainer) have hitched a ride on Air-Penguin (you can already imagine) back to New York.

The music, the mayhem, and the cacophony of color add to this uplifting and hilarious comedy. Hopefully we can all see some of our own fears and frailties in the antics of these cartoon creatures and leave with a lighter perspective about some of the jugular issues facing us and our kids today.
