Alex Aja’s remake of “Piranha” looks like a real hoot! (and no, I’m not just saying that because my buddy Josh Stolberg wrote it, and another friend, Adam Scott co-stars in the flick – but believe me, they’ll both bring their A-game to this, always do) – it, like some of the finest horror flicks of the ’70s & ’80s (including the Joe Dante-helmed original “Piranha” and the Jim Cameron-directed sequel) doesn’t seem to be taking itself too seriously, which is always refreshing in this time of serious stupidity, but more so, it’s found a good ‘use’ for 3D (yep, Shocker!)… rather than simply using it as a cheap gimmick to get bums on seats (looking at you “Clash of the Titans”!) it’s made it’s a part of the story – heck, unlike some of the other films that are currently using 3D it won’t so much as deter from the experience, it’ll add to it. Great cast, too – aside from my buddy Adam Scott there’s the always-dependable Elisabeth Shue, her fellow “Back to the Future II” and “III” cast member Christopher Lloyd, “Jaws” alum Richard Dreyfuss, and Ving Rhames.
Here’s the first trailer for “Piranha 3D”.
