Tom Cruise vs. John Woo

Tom Cruise wants to beat “Mission : Impossible 2” director John Woo to the Danger Zone.

Cruise and Woo are working on separate projects about WWII fighter pilots and both want to use the title “Flying Tigers”.

According to Deadline, both projects are based on the ”story of the volunteered fighter squadron formed by General Claire Chennault to help the Chinese fight against the Empire of Japan before the United States entered WWII”. The planes were called “Flying Tigers” because they had tiger teeth painted on the front of their planes.

Woo and Terence Chang have their “Flying Tigers” set up at China Film. By all accounts, it’s the one most ready to fly (They plan to film next Spring). Cruise, however, has just ordered Kirk Ellis do a rewrite on Christopher McQuarrie and Mason Alley “Tigers” script, so chances are he’s trying to beat Woo to the clouds.

Cruise would play the lead in his film, a pilot. The actor’s been attached to several pilot films over the course of his career and of course, starred in one of the most famous ones “Top Gun”. Maverick’s quite keen to fly again, says the site.

Will both films get up? or will one of these projects – as is usually the case – surrender to the other?
