Corey Feldman has his agent on the phone
CHUD had the chance to speak to producers Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller, at the junket for “The Hitcher” this past weekend, and they went into subterranean detail about what we can expect from their next (well, not next – they’ve got about ten other old films to redo first) remake, [gulp] “Friday the 13th”.
Originally, Form says, they couldn’t use anything from the first “Friday” film. Paramount owned the rights to that one, and they only had access to the New Line stuff – in other words, the sequels.
“So we were put in a box – we couldn’t use anything from the first one,” said the producer. “So we started going down the road of making a Friday the 13th movie that didn’t include anything from part one.”
Adds Fuller, “So we had to create our own back story”.
Paramount had a change of heart, though, and now they’ve – as has MTV films – come to the party.
“The box is completely open – we can use 1, 2 or 3,” Form says. “The title will be Friday the 13th. So we’re now going to bring in a new writer, [Jonathan] Liebesman [director of the Texas Chainsaw prequel] is going to direct, and we’re going to pull from the first three movies.”
Among the characters in the new film will by sequel regular, Tommy Jarvis, infamously portrayed by Corey Feldman back in the 80s.
