Top Gun : Maverick begins production in San Diego

Paramount Pictures have kicked off principal photography in San Diego on “Top Gun : Maverick”.

The sequel to the 1986 classic, which sees Tom Cruise reprise his iconic role of Lt.Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, sees Joseph Kosinski (“TRON Legacy”) directing from a script by Peter Craig and Justin Marks.

Cruise posted a teaser image on his socials, noting that it was “Day 1” of the shoot, while TMZ has footage of Cruise riding up on Maverick’s trademark motorcycle.

According to NBC San Diego, the Navy is supporting one shoot this week at Naval Air Station North Island, per a Production Assistance Agreement (PAA) signed by Paramount and the Department of Defense.

No support cast have been announced for the film, which is again produced by Jerry Bruckheimer as well as Skydance.

“Top Gun : Maverick” will be released July 12, 2019.
