Trailer for Matching Jack Online

20th Century Fox has released the trailer for the new Australian drama “Matching Jack” which, quite frankly, looks like it’s going to be a hard one for the parents of the world (me included) to watch. Here’s hoping for a happy ending!

(Update! David Parker, the producer, co-writer and cinematographer of “Matching Jack” tells us “I know this looks like it could be tough for parents, but we’ve really tried to metre the drama here. There’s no point pounding people into the ground, I figure, so we’ve managed quite a bit of humour mixed in with the hard stuff. I’m a parent and I wanted to make sure that this is primarily a woman’s journey – certainly finding a cure for her son’s illness through rather bizarre means, but also in her unexpected and enlightening encounter with an Irishman and his son. This is a story of folks apparently enjoying the good life but then it unravelling virtually overnight. And in the end, there is hope and love – it is uplifting and, I believe, entertaining. But please see the film and encourage other men to as well. The story originated from Lynne Renew who went through a cancer scare with her own son and penned this story along the way.” So, in other words, we can probably get away with just the one tissue, not two! Thanks for checking in, David!)

Having said that, don’t doubt this’ll be a great flick – looks it. Jacinda Barrett, James Nesbitt and Richard Roxburgh star in what’s the first film in over a decade for Australian filmmakers Nadia Tass and David Parker (whose “Big Steal” is one of my favourites!).

The film is based around Marisa (Jacinda Barrett) and her son, Jack (Tom Russell). Life seems idyllic for the suburban Melbourne family until Jack suddenly winds up in hospital. Marisa tries to find her husband, David (Richard Roxburgh) who is in fact in the next suburb apparently planning to leave Marisa for his current mistress, Veronica (Yvonne Strahovski) with his phone off and not a care in the world. Jack is diagnosed with Leukemia and when David finally surfaces he learns that he is the key to Jack’s survival. If a matching bone marrow donor can’t be found on the world register, maybe there is some child of David’s out there from one of his flings?

Here’s the trailer for “Matching Jack”, which will hold its World Premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival (22 July – 8 August) ahead of a national release on 30 September by Twentieth Century Fox.
