TRON TV series greenlit!

Seems Flynn’s Arcade is definitely back in business.

Popping another quarter into the newly refurbished TRON game, Disney XD have announced plans for an animated series based on the feature films  – predominately, that of “TRON Legacy”.

“TRON Uprising”, set to bow in 2012, will be directed and executive produced by Charlie Bean (“Samurai Jack”) with “Tron: Legacy” writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz serving as consulting producers.

The only actor returning from the films is Bruce Boxleitner, lending his lungs to the character of TRON. Also onboard are [net nerd and film geek] Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui (from “Entourage”), Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry and Lance Henriksen (“Aliens”).

According to Variety, Disney TV Animation is behind the show. Disney Channels Worldwide entertainment prexy Gary Marsh called the new show “a culmination of an extraordinary collaboration between Disney Television Animation and our feature film studio.”

“Tron: Uprising” will focus on Beck (voiced by Wood), who leads a revolution inside the Grid’s computer world.

“When kids dream, particularly boys, this is what they dream about,” said Marsh, showing a “Tron: Uprising” clip to reporters on Thursday. “There’s a quality we brought to bear on this.”

I have a question? Where’s Cindy Morgan in all this? I don’t quite understand the snubbing. She’s not in the new film…. and she’s seemingly not in the TV series….seems strange… right? Whatever the case, glad Boxleitner is back. Was a huge fan, like all of you likely were, of Boxleitner growing up – an avid watcher of “Scarecrow and Mrs King” and of course, big fan of his work in flicks like “The Baltimore Bullet”, “The Gambler” and of course, “Tron”.
