Twilight re-casting shocker!

In news that has sent shockwaves through the “Twilight” fan community (google a “Twilight” message board and you’ll see it’s the talk of the forum), Rachelle Lefevre has been forced to vacate the role of ‘Victoria’ in David Slade’s “Eclipse”.

The official response is that the beautiful red-head couldn’t fit the film in due to scheduling commitments. But once you hear who they’ve gotten to replace Lefevre, that response smells, well…a little off.

Bryce Dallas-Howard, last seen stinking up the screen in the atrocious “Terminator Salvation”, has been bought in to replace Lefevre. Now if I was a betting man, and I’m not – because I have a mortgage, a long line of debt, and credit cards that need paying off – I’d say Summit have merely decided to cast a bigger name in the part. Which clearly Dallas-Howard is. But personally, I think it’ll back-fire… just as it would’ve had the studio decided to recast the role of Jacob, which they were briefly considering before Taylor Lautner’s new muscles, and the fans, convinced them not to.

It is possible Lefevre does have a scheduling conflict – she is, after all, committed to play a part in the new Dustin Hoffman flick “Barney’s Game” around the same time. But it’s strange that either production can’t work together here… I’m sure she’s not needed on either film for that long.

Lefevre is well on her way to become a fairly biggish star thanks to her star turn in “Twilight”, and the upcoming “New Moon”, so it’s a real shame she can’t be a part of the third film in the series. I’m sure her career will recover… but will the fans?

Summit’s Erik Feig says, “Rachelle brought Victoria to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”
