Upfront Updates : Hellcats axed; Nikita and One Tree Hill stay

It’s a bittersweet day for CW fans! First the good news, especially concerning two of my favorite shows. The CW announced that veteran series ”One Tree Hill” for it’s ninth and final season while ”Nikita” will be back for a second season.

”One Tree Hill”’s ninth season will air in January with 13 episodes.

As for the bad news? Freshman show ”Hellcats” which stars Aly Michalka, Ashley Tisdale and Robbie Jones (a former OTH cast member) has been cancelled.

Also someone who got good news from the network? Sarah Michelle Gellar whose new show ”The Ringer” has been picked up. Here’s the show’s plot via EW:

Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as a woman, who after witnessing a murder, goes on the run, hiding out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister – only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind. The series stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ioan Gruffudd, Kristoffer Polaha, Nestor Carbonell, Tara Summers and Mike Colter. RINGER is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television in association with ABC Television Studios and Brillstein Entertainment with executive producers Pam Veasey (“CSI, NY,” “The District”), Peter Traugott (“Samantha Who?”) and Emmy Award-winner Richard Shepard (“Ugly Betty”). The pilot was directed by Richard Shepard.

Other shows picked up by CW include ”The Secret Circle”, ”Hart of Dixie” and the new reality TV series, ”H8R”. You can read those shows descriptions at the link above.

The CW will announce it’s full season lineup this Thursday.
