Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of New Line’s “Sex and the City: The Movie”, says Variety. Hudson, who’s in final negotiations, will portray the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw. The pic revolves around the lives of the four main “Sex and the City” characters, four years after the time frame of the finale of the HBO series, which wrapped its six-year run in 2004.

“Prom Night” director Nelson McCormick has signed on to direct Screen Gems’ remake of “The Stepfather”, says Variety. The story centers on a teenage boy who discovers his new stepfather is a serial killer who has murdered multiple families.
Don Cheadle is lending his voice to DreamWorks’ live-action “Hotel for Dogs”, says Variety. Emma Roberts has already boarded the film, which is based on Lois Duncan’s 1971 children’s book of the same name. The story revolves around two orphaned teenagers who hide dozens of stray dogs in an abandoned hotel. Cheadle will play a beleaguered social worker who keeps the kids out of trouble.
Jesse Metcalfe, Peter Stormare, Kiele Sanchez, Kevin Sussman and Olivia Munn are checking in to “Insanitarium”, says The Hollywood Reporter. Metcalfe will play a man who pretends to be crazy in order to save his sister (Sanchez) from being involuntarily hospitalized. Once inside the institute, the siblings discover that a doctor (Stormare) is using his patients like lab rats, forcing them to take a drug that turns them into flesh-eating psychopaths.
Mischa Barton, Deborah Kara Unger and Cameron Bright will star in “Walled In,” a psychological thriller that begins lensing Oct. 22 in Saskatchewan. The Gilles Paquet-Brenner directed movie casts Barton as a demolition company rep who supervises the razing of a mysterious building and discovers horrifying secrets and past inhabitants entombed within its walls by a vicious murderer.
Commercial director Joseph Kosinski is in final negotiations to develop and direct “Tron,” described as “the next chapter” of Disney’s 1982 cult classic, says The Hollywood Reporter. Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, will produce.

After creating a sensation on YouTube with its viral marketing videos, the novel “Average American Male” has been picked up by Fox Atomic with Betty Thomas on board to produce with an eye to direct, says The Hollywood Reporter. “Average’s” unnamed narrator is a man in his late 20s who hangs out with his friends and girlfriend, plays video games and holds an insignificant job. He reveals to readers his racy thoughts on his girlfriend, watching porn, his disgust with people in general and that he should either live life alone or bite the marriage bullet.
Kate Bosworth will play the title role in Emily Young’s feature adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s best-seller “Veronika Decides to Die” according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the drama, written for the screen by Larry Gross (“We Don’t Live Here Anymore”) and Roberta Hanley (“Woundings”), Bosworth will play a woman who wakes up in a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt. She discovers that she has a weakened heart and only days to live. The film follows her recovery as she finds true love and a newfound will to survive.
