Various Sequel News Items

“Mummy 3”, “Punisher 2”, “Bond 22”, “Trainspotting 2” etc

Various bits of sequel news today.

Both The Herald Sun and Variety confirm that Rachel Weisz will not be back for the next instalment of “The Mummy” franchise. She has opted out of returning; Brendan Fraser will instead headline the film solo. The writers are factoring in Wesiz’s no-show and doing another pass on the script.

‘Blades_Shades’ had a chance to ask Kurt Stutter (“The Shield”) about his work on the upcoming “Punisher 2” and he had this to say, “”I’m a huge fan of the character. frank castle is a complex, tortured badass. i had a blast writing the script. working with good producers (gale ann hurd, ari arad) and smart studio execs (john sacchi) made it an enjoyable gig. hoping this movie satisfies the rabid fanbase. the comic-lovers sect is a discriminating, well-informed, don’t-fuck-with-our-world group of folks. i’d hate to land on their bad side. unfortunately for the writer, what’s on the page and what lands on the screen can be two totally different things. once we type “the end” that pretty much sums up our control.”

CommanderBond.net tells us that “Casino Royale” writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have handed in the script for the next Bond film – the 22nd jaunt for 007. Meanwhile, Cinematical talked to writer Paul Haggis who said ‘with a peculiar smile that he was not involved with the film… yet’.

The first stills from “Cabin Fever 2” – starring that slacker chap from “Feast” – are up at DreadCentral.

The third and final trailer for “Spider-Man 3” has been unveiled here. Meantime, rumours are circulating (wouldn’t put too much stock in it, myself) that Sony might be eyeing Matt Long (“Ghost Rider”) to take over for Tobey Maguire in a “Spider-Man 4” should Maguire opt to hang up his costume. Personally, I say Magurie will return.

Despite the fact that Ewan McGregor has rejected the idea time and time again, Danny Boyle tells The Scotsman that “all” of the original “Trainspotting” cast – which you’d assume means McGregor too – will be back for the sequel, “Porno”.

Danny Glover tells HIT magazine today that although there might be interest in reviving the “Lethal Weapon” series – reconfirming rumours that Warner Bros may have reached out to Glover and Mel Gibson – he isn’t interested in coming back. Might Mel go it alone?
