Verhoeven doing saucy sex thriller. Something different.

This time get the “beaver shot” in writing, Paul!

The irrepressible Paul Verhoeven, director of some of today’s finest and funnest flicks (like “RoboCop”, “Flesh and Blood”, “Total Recall”) and, well, others (“Basic Instinct”, “Showgirls”), will return to the land of nipple twists and bruised butts for “Eternity”, a new supernatural thriller that sounds like it’ll encompass as many Boo!’s as it will bonking scenes.

Deadline likens the film – set up at Sidney Kimmel – to the Dutch maestro’s big 1992 hit “Basic Instinct”.

Verhoeven recently became available after the film he was supposed to be directing next year, the “Thomas Crown Affair” sequel, met another dead end (Brosnan’s butt too saggy?!). The filmmaker is no longer attached to the troubled Pierce Brosnan starrer.

Says the site, “In Eternal, a married recovering alcoholic helps a woman threatening to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. They end up in bed, and in a torrid sexual affair. When he gets home, he’s confronted by his wife and a private investigator, with photos spread across a table. He thinks he’s busted, but the photos that should have shown him in the clinches with his mistress instead show him alone, drinking alcohol. He initially questions his own sanity, but progressively figures out that this temptress is a ghost who is after his soul.”

Sounds quite promising…. bar the bit that the script’s by David Loughery (the clunker “Obsessed”) and that SKE has hired Richard D’Ovidio (Exit Wounds) to do a rewrite. Nothing a few crotch scenes can’t fix, I ‘spose.
