The long-rumoured Dodgeball sequel is inching ahead with Vince Vaughn will returning to star in (and likely produce) a sequel to the hit 2004 comedy.

According to Deadline, Jordan VanDina has been tapped to script the project, in early development at 20th Century Studios. No word on whether original cast members Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, Joel David Moore, Chris Williams, Missi Pyle, Gary Cole, Jason Bateman and William Shatner will be joining the Freaky actor in the follow-up.

Rawson Marshall Thurber’s original, the story of Pete LaFleur (Vaughn) and a group of misfits affiliated with his business, Average Joe’s Gym, pocketed $168M worldwide on a $20m budget.

The plot will again feature Vaughn’s prize-winning gym owner. The script is based on an idea the Swingers actor had.
