Russell Crowe (”Gladiator”, ”A Beautiful Mind”, ”Robin Hood”) is set to start alongside Mark Wahlberg (”The Lovely Bones”, ”Contraband”, ”The Fighter”) in “Broken City”, an independently-financed noir drama to be directed by Allen Hughes.
Wahlberg stars as the ex-cop-cum-private-investigator hired by the city’s mayor (to be played by Crowe) to discover whether his wife is cheating on him; not only does the private eye confirm those suspicions, but upon immersing himself in the mayor’s business uncovers a real estate scandal that has the politician dealing himself luxury city-owned properties.
The film’s script by Brian Tucker made the 2008 Black List and the $60 million budget will be financed by Emmett/Furla Films. Wahlberg will produce under his Closest to the Hole banner alongside Hughes, George Furla, Randall Emmett and Stephen Levinson.
