Watch Rocky IV for free on YouTube!

YouTube announced recently that they’ve uploaded a slew of films on the video platform that, if you don’t mind sitting through the odd commercial, you can view for free. Yep, kinda like Crackle.

The films, which starting appearing in October, included many MGM classics like “Rocky”, “Legally Blonde”, “The Terminator” and “Agent Cody Banks” (okay, okay.. not quite a classic in your house maybe…!).

Other movies available include “Hackers”, “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Sleepover”, “Zookeeper”, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”, “Throw Momma From the Train” and “Igor”.

Basically, as soon as YouTube inks a partnership with a movie studio – like MGM- they’ll put their movies up for us. It looks as though the free movie stuff is only on offer in the US at the time of writing, though one imagines it’ll expand to other regions shortly.

“We saw this opportunity based on user demand, beyond just offering paid movies,” Youtube’s Rohit Dhawan told AdAge. “Can we do ad-supported movies, free to the user? It also presents a nice opportunity for advertisers.”

Eventually, there could be a way for advertisers to pay to sponsor individual movies, giving users complimentary views and exclusive screenings, Dhawan added.

You can see what’s available to watch for free, movie-wise, by clicking here.

On Friday, you’ll be able to watch “The Lego Movie” simply by clicking on an ad for “The Lego Movie 2”. This one, however, will be ad-free but the kicker? it will only be available to watch for 24 hours from 12am PST on November 23.
