Witches burnt at stake

Not surprisingly – the pilot was fun, but my enjoyment of the show waned after the second episode – ABC has cancelled the much ballyhooed “Eastwick”.

The series, a feature-film adaptation of the classic “Witches of Eastwick”, consistently finished last in its Wednesday-10 pm timeslot, notes Michael Ausiello, who also broke the news of the show’s demise.

The problem with the series (besides the fact that it used the “Gilmore Girls” sets and thus, we had to constantly try and forget we’re looking at ‘Stars Hollow’) wasn’t the acting (Paul Gross was sublime as Daryl Van Horne; Rebecca Romjin was also rather good as the looser of the ‘Witches’), but the writing – there was just no drive to the show, no reason to tune in the next week, no punch to it. And it’s a pity, because there was potential there.

The network plans to air all 13 episodes of “Eastwick”.
