Former “X-Files” star Robert Patrick is replacing “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston in Ruben ‘Zombieland’ Fleischer’s new movie “The Gangster Squad”.
Cranston was set to play a Texan copper in the 1940’s crime-drama – opposite Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Michael Pena and Giovani Ribisi, among others – but due to a scheduling clash with the new Ben Affleck flick “Argo” was forced to pull out.
Written by former cop Will Beall, “Gangster Squad” is an adaptation of Paul Lieberman‘s LA Times feature and follows follows the tale of a team of honest cops hand picked from a corrupt LAPD, that attempt to take down the guy behind all the dirty dealings, East Coast gangster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). But the group finds themselves up against several of Mickey’s high-ranking friends, as well as his seemingly endless collection of payed-off cops. Brolin is starring as John O’Mara, one of the few cops not on the payroll of gangster Mickey Cohen, being portrayed by Oscar Winner Penn. Ryan Gosling, meanwhile, will play Sgt. Jerry Wooters, a good cop who loves the bachelor life.
Now Patrick, who in recent years has starred in the TV series “The Unit” and such films as “S.W.A.T : Firefight” and “Balls of Fury”, has stepped in to play the part of Max Kennard “a laconic LAPD officer from Texas who enforces the law ambitiously.”.
