Billy Eichner, the “Billy on the Street” breakout who went on to appear in the likes of “American Horror Story” and the live-action redo of “The Lion King”, will play Matt Drudge in FX’s “American Crime Story : Impeachment”.
Meanwhile, it was announced earlier today Richard Shepard (HBO’s “Girls”, “The Matador”) will direct and executive produce the limited series.
Eichner, as the Drudge Report ceo who first broke the news on President Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, joins Beanie Feldstein who is playing Lewinsky, Clive Owen as Clinton, Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp, and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones.
Sarah Burgess is writing and will serve as EP with Shepard, Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Sarah Paulson.
The series, based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President”, is expected to go before the cameras on March 21.
