Leash chats to the new Bosley, Ramon Rodriguez!

At the “Battle : Los Angeles” junket, I had a few minutes to chat to star Ramon Rodriguez about his next gig, playing that of Bosley in the new “Charlie’s Angels” reboot for ABC.

The new Angels are Minka Kelly (”Friday Night Lights”), Rachael Taylor (”Transformers”) and Annie Ilonzeh (”General Hospital”) with Bosley – this time said to be more suave and GQ magazine – assigning them their daily tasks.

Are you training for “Charlie’s Angels”?

I’m doing martial arts right now – he’s also a techie, and I’m a bit of a techie, so that’s cool, but it’s mostly martial arts. It’s also figuring out who this character is, so I’m talking to the writers a lot right now, answering questions like ‘who is Bosley?’ ‘What’s his relationship with the Angels?’ ‘What’s his relationship with Charlie?’ ‘What does he feel?’

Sounds like a much cooler version of Bosley than we’ve seen before

For sure. In my eyes, for sure.

Bernie Mac, of course, played Bosley after Bill Murray did…

I know, believe me, I know [Laughs] and that’s really important, but just the fact that they’ve cast me tells me they’re going in a different direction..with respect to everybody else. I have to do my version, I have to do my take on Bosley. This to me, when I get to explore and research and figure out [a character], is the funnest part of all this.

How do you think you’ll handle all these women?

I’ve been preparing for this my whole life, I mean that seriously, I grew up with three sisters. And they watched the show, so they got more excited than I did when I found out I was playing Bosley – they were freaking out. They said, ‘You’ve been gearing up to play this role your whole life’. I was like… what!? But it’s true.

Are you bringing much Bosley-isms from the original series into your interpretation?

Honestly, I don’t remember much of the original series; I know David Doyle played Bosley, and I went on YouTube and checked out some of his stuff but this is a whole new take, this is my version of Bosley.
