10 Disappointing TV Series Finales : Dallas

1. Dallas

(1991)
Episode : Conundrum
Synopsis : JR comes out of his room, drinking. He wanders around for a while among the empty rooms, still clutching his gun. He takes a seat on the porch and contemplates what life would be if he was no longer around – or if there had never been a JR Ewing. A guy in white appears on the balcony and encourages JR to pull the trigger. JR shoots at him and watches as the shot goes right through him. The guy suddenly moves to the diving board and says his name is Adam. Adam offers JR the chance to find out what life would been without him. JR is hesitant but Adam seems to know everything about his life situation. The pair is transferred to the Ewing Oil office, now housing an insurance company (Ultimate Dallas)
“Dallas”, at one time the highest-rated Soap opera on the air, had turned into an absolute joke by the time it’s [sorta welcome] finale aired. A twist on ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, the finale had an evil demon, masquerading as an angel, showing up to show J.R (Larry Hagman) what everyone’s lives would’ve been like without him in it. At the end of the episode, the demon talks J.R into putting a gun to his head and ultimately, pulling the trigger. Bobby (Patrick Duffy) runs in and screams “Oh my God!”… fade to black. (A “Dallas” telemovie aired about five years later, and in it J.R was very much alive – he had apparently shot a mirror instead of himself, one of which Bobby was assumingly rather fond of).
