15 Things we learnt this week

I’m in the middle of a triple header this evening, starting off with my interview with Dana Adam Shapiro, this little ditty that you’re reading right now, and ending with “The Weeksly Late Edition”, so with my mind running at a million miles a minute, let’s kick it off with:

1: It looks like “Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind” wasn’t a fluke for George Clooney. The trailer for “Good Night, and Good Luck” premiered this week, and it looks friggin’ sweet…. And I’m suddenly aware that I’m writing like Napoleon Dynamite….

2: That try as he might, Steven Spielberg just can’t stay away from the good old Sci-Fi flicks. He’s signed on to produce a remake of “When Worlds Collide”. Can the remake of “Species” be too far off of his agenda?

3: That I can smell what The Rock is cooking. There was a ton of new cast members signing up for “Southland Tales” this week, including Jon Lovitz, John Larroquette, Miranda Richards & Bai Ling. Throw that in with Sarah Michelle Gellar, chuck ‘em in the ring with the most electrifying man in sports entertainment, and you’ve got a hell of an entertaining movie in the works.

4: That Paul Haggis is about to redo the script of “Casino Royale”… then “Indiana Jones 4”, then “Jurassic Park 4”, then any other film that is going to be released in the next 5 years. Then he’ll be moving to the Ehren Krueger / Kevin Williamson home for retired script doctors.

5: That Billy Crudup has joined up the currently filming “Mission: Impossible 3”. I have to admit that I’ve only seen the guy in “Almost Famous” & “Big Fish”, but I’m mighty impressed by this news.

6: That “The Producers” made a ton of money on Broadway and other stages around the world, and if the early reviews are any measure, it’s gonna make a ton of cash in the cinema as well.

7: That Leslie Nielsen is back on the big screen once again in “Scary Movie 4”.
I’m a bit “eh” about the “Scary Movie” franchise, but with Nielsen’s history including this little exchange:
Captain Oveur: You ever been in a cockpit before?
Joey: No sir, I’ve never been up in a plane before.
Captain Oveur: You ever seen a grown man naked?
I’ll watch anything with him in it.

8: That I can not believe that I’m only up to number eight.

9: That it’s just under 2 weeks until “Lost” & “The O.C.” kick off for their second and third respective seasons in the U.S., and it’s still over 6 months away until Australian audiences get to see them.

10: That Toni Collette looks so much like Tina Fey (“SNL”) in “In Her Shoes” that it’s amazing she’s not getting sued for likeness rights.

11: That my wife really shouldn’t watch “Getaway: Las Vegas” 8 weeks before we leave for the U.S. – I’m gonna be broke 3 days into my holiday.

12: That I can not believe I’ve made it to number 12.

13: That 13 is just unlucky, so I’ll say nothing.

14: That I was incredibly nervous doing my first ever interview.

15: That transcribing interviews takes friggin’ forever…… and I’m back to Napoleon again.
