2009 Golden Globe Winners

So no big surprises this year (Well, maybe Colin Farrell winning for “In Bruges” wasn’t predicted by many, least of which, myself, and Kate Winslet flattening Meryl Streep was good to see, wasn’t it!? – in my opinion it was the better performance, Winslet rocked “Revolutionary Road”) but boy, how touching was it when Heath Ledger’s name was finally called out as the Best Supporting Actor Winner for “The Dark Knight”!

We knew it was coming, but boy, so well-deserved… and so tragic that he’s not there to pick up his statue. I didn’t see ex-wife Michelle Williams in the audience – did you guys? Surely she was there somewhere? And though Mr. short-and-sweet Chris Nolan did a reasonably admirable job of accepting the award on the late Ledger’s behalf, it would’ve been nice if he’d said just a “few” more words about the talented actor’s final performance. Still, it was fuckin’ rousing. Great stuff. And good on Cruise and Downey for kicking off the applause (say what you will about Cruise but I think deep-down he’s got to be a pretty decent bloke).

Other big winners of the night included “Slumdog Millionaire”, TVs “30 Rock”, The mini-series “John Adams” and . No real love for “Benjamin Button” (did anyone else hear Susan Sarandon pronouncing it as “Benjamin Britton”!?) or “Gran Torino” but Mickey Rourke snagging best Actor (Drama) for “The Wrestler” more than made up for those oversights.
