9 Seconds?

Sequel to Luke Perry’s “8 Seconds” in the works

I love “8 Seconds”. I do. And if you could actually hear the tone in my voice and realise there’s no sarcasm present at all you’d probably believe that declaration. Better backtrack though…. “8 Seconds” was a bull riding film from “Rocky” and “Karate Kid” director John G.Avildsen. It starred Luke Perry – stop your groaning – as Lane Frost, a real-life rough riding’ bull-rider whose career was unfortunately cut short. Damn good movie. Perry – who at the time was riding high with “90210” – was terrific in the movie. I too thought he was a tub of hair-gel and little more – until I saw him in this.

But I digress because I’m assuming he’ll have nothing to do with the sequel.

Yep, a sequel to a film that doesn’t call for one has been announced. “8 Seconds 2” – which will probably just centre on some non-specific rodeo rider, or maybe fix on Perry’s best buddy in the first film, played by Stephen ‘will work for marbles’ Baldwin – is in the development stages at New Line. It’ll be released direct to DVD.

Video Business has an article on some of the DTV sequels that are kicking off this year. Aside from “8 Seconds 2” there’s sequels to “Set if off”, “Cellular”, “Friday” and “Havoc” – the ‘Anne Hathaway gets her jugs out’ one – on the way.
