As I mentioned in my review, Ali Larter is easily the best thing in “Resident Evil: Extinction” – she doesn’t have a lot to do, but she looks tight as a sort of Rambette and at least gives something similar to a performance; totally steals every scene she’s in from Milla ‘I spray myself in fountain before each scene’ Jovovich – so it’s no surprise to hear that Screen Gems might be developing the next sequel around her character.
Larter tells Shock Til You Drop that she’s hearing “whispers” that Claire Redfield, the sexy undead slaughterer she plays in “Extinction”, might be the heroine of the next outing. “We’ll see come Monday, right?”, said Larter, referring to how big the film opens this weekend.
I believe they were initially going to do “Resident Evil 3” and “Resident Evil 4” back-to-back or close enough together to give one that perception (Jensen Ackles was rumoured to be playing Leon Kennedy in the fourth one there for a while), but Paul Anderson’s type-writer ribbon ran out… or something. I’m assuming they decided just to wait to see how “Extinction” does and then make their mind up about Zombie Jaunt number four.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the “Resident Evil” pics… to me, they seem to be all effects and less about entertainment, but I will admit that I liked some elements of the latest one. One of them being Larter.
