A Kick-Ass director may do Flash Gordon next

“Kingsman : The Secret Service” helmer Matthew Vaughn is circling “Flash Gordon”, according to Heat Vision.

The filmmaker, who helmed fellow comic book movies “X-Men : First Class” and “Kick-Ass”, is in negotiations to bring back to the screen the athlete and adventurer turned space hero. Fox house the film, with John Davis (“Chronicle”) and King Features producing.

Flash Gordon last featured on the big screen in the 1980 film starring Sam J.Jones and directed by Mike Hodges. Jones has said in recent interviews that he believes the new “Flash Gordon” movie to be a sequel, of sorts, suggesting he might be reprising his role – though none of this has been confirmed.

The story treatment for the film was penned by George Nolfi (“The Bourne Ultimatum”) and the script by “Star Trek 3” writers D.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

Jones recently reprised his Flash Gordon role – from the earlier film – for a sequence in Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted”.
