ABC is bringing the old Richard Pryor-Gene Carlin comedy “Car Wash” to TV screens.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 1976 film – which spawned the hit song of the same name – will be translated to the small screen via a single-camera comedy hailing from “Think Like a Man” producer Will Packer.
Kenny Leon (“Hairspray Live”) will direct and co-executive produce the pilot, which is described as “a workplace comedy that explores the family we build in order to survive — as seen through one kid’s determination to create his own destiny, one man’s struggle to accept who he has become and the bonds they form at an iconic Hollywood destination: Deluxe Car Wash.”
The cast of the original Universal film featured a bevy of comic greats including Carlin, Pryor, and Garrett Morris. Musical art the Pointer Sisters also appeared.
