AFM : Bad Santa 2 begins filming in January

The long-gestating “Bad Santa” sequel is back on.

According to Deadline, Miramax and Broad Green Pictures are teaming to co-finance and co-produce “Bad Santa 2” with Billy Bob Thornton reprising his role from the 2003 holiday comedy.

Principal photography begins in January in Montreal.

International rights to the film will be shopped at AFM next week.

“Bad Santa has been a part of our family holiday tradition ever since we all saw it together at our neighborhood theater,” Broad Green Pictures CEO Gabriel Hammond and CCO Daniel Hammond said in a statement. “We are excited to bring this memorable character and new chapter back to the big screen.”

The sequel has been in the works since 2012, at which time Steve Pink was attached to direct. No word on whether Pink remains onboard, but the script comes from Doug Ellin, Shauna Cross, John Phillips and Johnny Rosenthal.
