Alias star headlining del Toro’s The Strain

“Alias” alum Mia Maestro will play the lead in the Guillermo del Toro produced “The Strain” for FX.

The high-profile drama series, from del Toro and “Lost” alum Carlton Cuse, is based on the “Hellboy” director’s vampire novel trilogy.

The Strain is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.

del Toro will direct the pilot, which he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan.

FX has ordered 13 episodes of the show.
