Amazon Prime is now in Australia!?

No longer do we have to amuse ourselves with only ”Henderson Kids” repeats and Warwick Capper mattress commercials (not that we were, but let’s all play along), Amazon Prime* has arrived in Australia.

The streaming service has quietly been switched on down under – and two weeks ahead of it’s intended official bow. Previously, you’d had to have had a POQ or STD or VPN or whatever it’s called to access Prime from the arse end of the world here. And like that, the percentage of crooks in Australia just halved!

Amazon claim it HASN’T launched here yet (“We have not launched Amazon Prime in Australia. The service some Australians have signed-up for is the US or UK Prime Membership, which provides free, fast shipping within the US or UK, as well as access to some Amazon Originals, such as The Grand Tour, where we have the global rights.”) but fact is, you can now access it. They want you to. Believe me.

Why now? Amazon Prime wants to be able to offer that car series “The Grand Tour” to more folks. That hasn’t launched yet (UPDATE : Some say it IS now available), but meantime you can access shows like “Transparent”, “The Man in the High Castle” and “Goliath” with Billy Bob Thornton. Apparently you still can’t click-and-play everything, but most of the ‘originals’ (as in the shows Amazon have produced themselves) will work. I’m too busy typing articles on a film website to actually check, so go do it for me will ya?

* No Gran, that was Optimus Prime, the Transformer. Whole different thing.
