He may be best known as that “wild and crazy” funnyman from films usually adorning a Nancy Meyers, Frank Oz or Adam Shankman credit, but Steve Martin’s actually got a lot more going on than rubbery legs and funny faces. Besides being quite the art expert, he’s also a very intelligent and rather clever novelist. Those who’ve read the actor’s “Shopgirl” can attest to the man’s terrific ability to nail character, real-life and even romance in literary form.
The film version of that book, in which Martin shone in a rare dramatic performance as an older suitor for young Claire Danes, was also a delight.
Now comes word that Martin’s “An Object of Beauty” novel is also going the cinematic route.

It sounds like a doozie of a story (dare I call it an edgy, less retarded version of “The Secret of My Success”!?) and who else thinks Amy will end up on an Oscar ballot sheet for the film?
