There’s been talk of bringing “Captain Scarlet”, one of Gerry Anderson’s lesser-known (and when I say ‘lesser-known’ I mean it wasn’t “Thunderbirds”) TV creations (the ‘darker’ of his creations) to the big screen for years. At one stage apparently George Clooney was even interested – – but prefers projects to correspond with his relationships, in that there’s no strings attached, so ultimately skipped on the opportunity to play the stringy agent.
Word today from London Insider over at What’s Playing that the film version of the puppet series may be back on the cards with – no surprise, being that there aren’t too many British action heroes around – action-movie favourite Jason Statham filmmakers pick to take on the role of the super-agent.

Captain Scarlet worked for Spectrum and is the guy assigned the most dangerous and crucial missions. Oh, and he died in the first episode – only to be reconstructed by aliens. As you do.
There’s actually been two versions of “Captain Scarlet” – one in the ’60s and one in the noughties. The former, the most well-known, a form of marionette puppetry that the Andersons termed “Supermarionation”, a technology which used internal solenoid motors to produce mouth motions synchronised with pre-recorded dialogue.
In 2005, “Gerry Anderson’s New Captain Scarlet’ premiered on British TV.
It’s not known how close to happening the “Scarlet” movie is but suppose if they want Statham it’s going to be whenever he’s free – which, looking at his IMDB, should be around 2014.
