Ant Man prequel about Michael Douglas’s Hank Pym? Yes please!

Out stumping the soon-to-unspool “Ant Man”, director Peyton Reed says that if it were his choice one of the more immediate follow-ups to the superhero jaunt would be a prequel fixing on the original Ant Man, Hank Pym. Michael Douglas plays the role in “Ant Man”, but assumingly, another actor would be brought in to play the younger incarnation of the character (unless they can pull a “Terminator : Genisys” and have the computer wizards de-age Douglas?).

The director tells ComicBook.com, “Listen, if we were lucky enough to be able to do a sequel or even a prequel, I’d be way into it. I’ve really fallen in love with these characters. I was always in love with the characters in the comic book world, but there’s a lot of story to tell with Hank Pym. Growing up reading comics in the late ’60s, early ’70s, as a really young kid, he’s one of the defining characters in the Marvel Comics universe [to me]. Hank Pym is one of the most compelling characters in the Marvel comics world.”

Reed says he’s very “protective” of the Ant Man character, specifically the version played by Paul Rudd, and if he was to cameo in “Captain America : Civil War” he wanted his inclusion not to feel out of place but also feel authentic.

“I had the Russo brothers, who are directing Captain America: Civil War, brought into the cutting room. So, I show them a bunch of footage from Ant-Man because they were gonna be working with Paul. I felt very protective about the character. I was like, ‘No, he wouldn’t say that, he would say this!’ It was great. It was a great back and forth.”
