Archie movie alive at Warner Bros

That long-awaited “Archie” film – ya know, the one they’ve been promising us for years?! – is on the way… but it’s pitch may have been tweaked since the last time the project came up.

According to Deadline, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been hired to write the script. In addition to “Glee”, you’ll find something a little more interesting on the man’s CV : the recently released “Afterlife with Archie” comics . In those, the characters of Archie, Jughead, Veronica and Betty go head-to-head with coffin dodgers.

So, can we expect some “World War Z” extras to turn up in the “Archie” movie?

Warners aren’t saying but the evidence would suggest so. Not only is our scribe recognized for meshing horror with ‘Archie’, but he’s responsible for writing the new “Carrie”, among other horror flicks. Plus, horror-vet Roy Lee, whose many credits include “The Ring” and “The Grudge”, is listed as a producer. Maybe they’re planning a new comedy-horror mesh, something along the lines of the upcoming ensemble laffer “This is the End”? Shit, I dunno… but a straight-up ‘funny’ “Archie” movie seems like an odd project for these horror hounds to get into otherwise.

Still, sources tell the site that the Warner Bros.produced comedy is being pitched as simply a “high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present-day Riverdale.”
And that would be quite fine too (so long as they aim for a hard-R; some “Superbad”-style humour set in the world of “Archie” would work a treat!).

Jason Moore, who directed 2011’s rather effective teen comedy “Pitch Perfect” is helming.

So, let the casting speculation begin! Let the suggestion box flow!
