James Cameron has always intended to wish upon the world a couple more “Avatar” films – following the 2009 original – but now he’s confirmed there will be four.
Speaking on the Fox panel today at CinemaCon, the famed filmmaker says we’ll get an “Avatar 2”, “Avatar 3”, “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5” in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023, respectively. It’s expected that each of the films will be released around Christmastime.
“We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process… I’ve been working the last couple of years with a team of four top screenwriters to design the world of Avatar going forward: The characters, the creatures, the environment, the new cultures”, Cameron said. “So far, the art I’m seeing, is in pure imagination, really far beyond the first film. It’s going to be a true epic saga.”
Cameron has suggested that some of the stuff we’ll see in the sequels has never been put on film before.
