Bana, Gervais are Special Correspondents

Eric Bana and Ricky Gervais will star in “Special Correspondents” for Bron Studios and Unanimous Entertainment.

Per Variety, the film is a remake of a 2009 French comedy, which Gervais will also write, direct, and produce.

The story will follow Bana’s character, a struggling New York-based radio journalist whose arrogance and decadent lifestyle has hindered his career. With his job on the line, he fakes front line war reports from the comfort of his hideout above a Spanish restaurant in the heart of Manhattan.

In the 2009 original, France mobilizes to gain the release of two kidnapped journalists in Iraq, but only the victims know the crime has been faked.

The film is Gervais’ first directing gig since 2010’s “Cemetery Junction”.
