Jason Bateman is back on “This is Where I Leave You”, Warner Bros’ adaptation of the Jonathan Tropper book that nearly came together last May but fell apart when it’s director exited the project.
Adam Shankman was attached to direct at the time; “Night at the Museum” helmer Shawn Levy has now taken over (Shankman remains onboard as a producer).
Originally, Bateman, Zac Efron, Leslie Mann, Goldie Hawn, Malin Akerman and Jason Sudeikis were said to be in talks for the film; at this stage, only Bateman – starring in this weekend’s “Identity Thief” – is officially back onboard.
Ari Graynor, Isla Fisher, Zoe Saldana, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kathryn Hahn are being brought in to read with Bateman next week, suggesting an all-new supporting cast might be on the cards. Amy Adams is also “in the mix”, but she isn’t reading.
The Hollywood Reporter, who has the news on the revived project, said :
Tropper wrote the script, which centers on a man (Bateman) whose father dies and tasks his dysfunctional family with one last request: to spend seven days following the funeral together under the same roof.
Most of the actresses are reading for the part of Penny, the love that got away who works at her father’s company.
Hahn is reading for the part of Bateman’s wife, a woman who is having an affair with his boss.
Here’s hoping Goldie Hawn gets back onboard with the project, it’s been too long since we’ve seen Goldie!
